Lord God be angry with me and help me
Lord God despise what I have done and help me
Lord God punish me and help me
Lord God I have injured myself, I am useless, help me
Lord God I have done so much hurt, help me
Lord God in spite of all help me
This expression of unworthiness and sorrow for wrongs done reveals the poet's most private side. He wrote at other times in his notebooks in this vein, but rarely with such economy as in this prayer. Dated by him: Sunday 4th October 1998.
